Hello!

My company is considering purchasing SEO URL provider module for our DNN based website (www.spi.hr), but before we do that I would like to know is it possible to create URL's with no extension at all (example: www.spi.hr/products) WITHOUT doing anything in IIS settings.

Reason I ask is because we've tried few other modules currently offered on the market and it's possible to create extension-less URL's with them, but that requires making changes to IIS settings and we'd like to avoid that if possible.

Thank you.

Yes, it is if you are on IIS7 or 7.5.
If you are still on IIS6 there is no way any module could do it without changes to IIS configuration.

That's great, I'll have to ask my admin when he comes back from WinDays what IIS we currently use

So, forgive me if I'm making you repeat the answer, but I want to be absolutely clear on this: if we use IIS 7 or 7.5, then we just install the module and we'll be able to create extension-less URL's.

If we use IIS 6 or lower, then we have to change IIS settings.

Is this correct?

Thank you once again.

If you are on dnn 4.9.5 or better you can check yourself in Host / Dashboard

I confirm:
On IIS7 / 7.5 (Win 2008 / 2008R2) all you need to do is configure the module and click Enable.

On IIS6 you will have to add "wild card mapping" and there is no DNN module that can bypass this.

I would like to follow-up on this question about creating URL's without an extension. How is this done with the module? I have added the wildcard to IIS 6, and I know that it works. However, shouldn't the URL Provider rewrite my DNN menus to remove the .aspx extension? Shouldn't the LINK feature on the editor not include the extension?

Any help on how to do this is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have wildcard mapping all you now need to do is delete the extension in portal settings and click save.
I'd recommend deleting all rules first.

I'm having trouble configuring this on IIS6. I have the wildcard application mapping pointing ot the asp.net module. The same one used to process aspx. Is this right? Is there anything that needs to be done in the seo module?

Change the setting in the seo module on Portal Settings tab - remove the extension and click save at the bottom.
Delete all rules on Globals tab first.

Or else provide host access and I'll do it for you (mail to support@ )

Ok, finally moved to IIS7.5. I removed the extension in portal settings and my site blew up. "object not set to an instance yada yada".

What are the instructions for IIS7.5 for no extensions?

If you are on Net 4.0 no special instruction and it works perfectly.
On Net 2.0/3.5 enable the option/button on Globals: Run all managed modules for all requests.

This is not module dependent so there is not magic here.
If you are on IIS6 you must make changes to IIS.
If on IIS7 / 7.5 no need to change IIS.
Please see module help for detailed instructions / explanations.
